ON SALE FOR THE HOLIDAYS! The Zipp 101 clincher wheel set provides the discerning road cyclist and triathlete an affordable opportunity to capitalize on two decades worth of Zipp's aero-technologies.
The Zipp 101 is designed around the first fully toroidal aluminum rim, developed in the wind tunnel and having a proprietary profile curve extending across the braking surface. This design minimizes wind drag more than either a standard V-shaped or hybrid-torodial profile with flat, parallel braking surfaces. The bulged profile on the 101's smoothes the airflow around the wheel more effectively while still complementing most common tire sizes, fitting narrow 21mm tires to wide 35 mm tires. This profile provides a distinct advantage over less tolerant wide-profile clincher rims.
The front wheel includes a Zipp 88 hub with Swiss steel bearings, has an Sapim CX-Ray 18 spoke radial pattern and weighs 680 grams. The rear wheel includes a Zipp 188 hub with Swiss steel bearings, has an Sapim CX-Ray 20 spoke radial pattern and weighs 843 grams. Available as a 700c clincher wheel.
The steel bearings are the roundest in the industry, the 17mm axle is the stiffest Zipp has tested, and the wire EDM-cut hub internals are the most precise. Along with the rest of Zipps wheel line, the 101 wheelset is handmade in Speedway, Indiana.
